Editorial Policy & Review Methodology

Last updated: July 2026

MattressLabReview exists to help readers make better decisions about the mattress they sleep on. This page explains how we research, write, rank, and maintain our guides — and how we keep our recommendations honest.

How we research

Our recommendations are research-based. For each guide we gather and weigh manufacturer specifications and official documentation; published independent and third-party lab tests and expert reviews, where available; foam and materials certifications such as CertiPUR-US; sleep-science research relevant to firmness, support, and sleep position; current pricing and trial, warranty, and return terms; and aggregated owner and user feedback from multiple sources. We synthesize these inputs into clear, comparative guidance about memory-foam, hybrid, and innerspring mattresses. Where we have not physically tested a mattress ourselves, we do not claim to have — we are a research-anchored editorial team, not a hands-on testing lab.

How we rank

Rankings reflect our editorial team’s overall assessment of support, comfort for a given sleeper, materials quality, value, and trial/warranty terms — not which brand pays the most. We deliberately do not assign a single decimal score or star rating, because a number like “8.7/10” implies a level of instrumented, repeatable lab testing we do not perform. The 1–10 numbers in our guides are firmness ratings from manufacturer specs and the standard mattress firmness scale, not quality scores. Instead we compare mattresses on the criteria that matter for each sleeper and use plain “best for” labels, explaining our reasoning so you can disagree where your needs differ.

How we handle money and independence

Corrections and updates

We keep guides current as prices change and models are discontinued or replaced. If you spot an error, email contact@mattresslabreview.com with a source and we will review and correct it when warranted. This is general information about consumer products, not medical advice; if you have a health condition affecting your sleep or back, consult a qualified professional.
